Our Innovations in Support of Beekeepers
Véto-pharma places innovation at the forefront of its mission to support bee health.
Each year, 10% of its revenue is allocated to research and development.
The experimental apiary
In 2014, we launched our experimental apiary with several goals: to conduct autonomous trials to accelerate the development of solutions, to update our technical references to ensure the compliance of Véto-pharma products, and to strengthen our expertise, particularly against Varroa destructor.
In 10 years, the innovation team has made significant progress: the apiary grew from 100 to 380 colonies. The Varroa EasyCheck was developed to count varroa mites, and the VespaCatch trap was improved to selectively catch the Yellow-legged hornet. Several nutritional solutions, such as MegaBee, have been tested, and future treatments for Varroa are in the pipeline.
The bee R&D laboratory
Since 2021, the Bee Innovation department has relocated part of its research center to EVA. It currently houses our dedicated Research and Development team, which includes engineers, researchers, doctors (specialising in pathology, toxicology, genetics, and nutrition), and beekeeping technicians.
In 2018, our experts ramped up their efforts to research new molecules against Varroa, developing their own screening methods.
Today, more than 100 active ingredients have been tested, and some have shown promising results for the future!
EVA – bee valorization space
Opened in 2015, EVA was established to bring together innovation, technology, and education in one place. Located in Chaillac, France, it is close to our industrial site where our products are produced.
This space houses the R&D and technical division of the experimental apiary, a honey house, and an educational area dedicated to raising awareness about bees and promoting their conservation.
EVA hosts various national and local events focused on beekeeping topics, open to the public, including young people. Conferences for beekeepers and free visits for schools and the general public are also organized here.

Our Partnerships
Collaboration with Simon Fraser University to fight against Varroa
The new active ingredient discovered by a team of Canadian researchers in the early 2000s holds significant potential to revolutionize the fight against the major bee parasite, Varroa destructor. This discovery offers beekeepers worldwide with a new, effective, and targeted solution. Field trials conducted in Canada over recent years have yielded promising results.
In 2023, Véto-pharma and Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Canada joined forces to develop a new acaricide against varroa.
We are confident that this collaboration will bring this discovery to fruition and contribute to the global effort to preserve the health of bee colonies.
Sponsor of the International Coloss Network
COLOSS (Colony Loss Prevention Organization – COLony LOSSes) is an international scientific organization. Its mission is to support the survival of bees worldwide, promote their health, coordinate international research, and share knowledge related to improving their well-being. Its projects are globally recognised and highly regarded by the beekeeping community.
Since 2017, Véto-pharma has been a key sponsor of COLOSS. In practice, we provide financial support, participate in their annual conference, and are also a member of the ‘Varroa Task Force.
Gold Partner of the French Honey Competition
The French Honey competition is organized by the UNAF (National Union of Beekeepers of France) and the CNTESA (National Technico-Economic and Scientific Commission for Beekeeping). It recognises the quality of French honeys and processed products such as nougat, gingerbread, and mead, rewarding the exceptional work of beekeepers.
Véto-pharma has been designated as the “Gold Partner” of the competition since its creation in 2018: we provide them with financial support, and some of our employees are members of the jury!
Member of the Honey Bee Health Coalition
The Honey Bee Health Coalition is a collaborative initiative that unites beekeepers, researchers, businesses, and environmental organizations in the United States and Canada.
Its members work together to enhance the health of bee colonies, primarily through the creation of educational tools and a programme that promotes cooperation between farmers and beekeepers.
Since 2017, Véto-pharma has been a member of the Honey Bee Health Coalition, participating in informational meetings and offering financial support to the coalition.
Financial support for the Apimondia “Bee health” Symposium
The “Bee Health” Symposium is an event organized by Apimondia, the international federation of beekeepers’ associations and other organizations working in the beekeeping sector since 1895.
At this event, experts, researchers, and beekeepers from across the globe come together to discuss advancements and challenges related to bee health. Topics such as diseases, pests, nutrition, and sustainable hive management strategies are explored.
Véto-pharma provided financial support during the latest edition in June 2024 in Madrid.
Our Support doesn’t Stop There!
Our BeeTuned platform offers content in English on bee science, presented in a clear, accessible, and understandable way for all beekeepers, whether professional or amateur. It features articles, webinars, and podcasts hosted by scientific experts specialising in beekeeping.
We write and distribute Guides designed to assist beekeepers.
Once a year, we organize the “Valorizing Bees and Beekeeping” amateur photography contest for both adults and children in France and Europe. The exhibitions resulting from the various contests are made available free of charge to local authorities, partners, and associations.
At beekeeping gatherings and events, we distribute pollinator-friendly seeds.
We actively participate in local beekeeping events.
